“To see WARGASM replace Vio-Lence on Bloodstock's main stage, before their first mixtape.”
Context
On August 14, 2021, Bloodstock makes room for a replacement that changes the temperature on the main stage. WARGASM steps in for Vio-Lence, absent due to travel restrictions. Milkie Way and Sam Matlock arrive at Catton Park with singles, electronics, and an approach far removed from the thrash expected in that slot.
Rage All Over opens the confrontation. The two vocalists take the front of the stage while the mix of punk and nu metal draws uneven responses: there are pits, crowd surfers, and spectators still looking bewildered. Lapdance, by N*E*R*D, takes the detour further. The drummer, who comes onstage on crutches, anchors the performance despite a foot injury.
The festival appearance belongs to a phase before Explicit: The Mixxxtape, which does not arrive until 2022. Later in 2021, the duo wins the British breakthrough award at the Heavy Music Awards. The full Bloodstock footage preserves this stage of establishing themselves: a young band takes an unexpected slot without smoothing over the friction.
- Lapdance brings N*E*R*D into the heart of a metal festival.
