“To see Skindred as Bloodstock returns after the cancellation in 2020, before Devin Townsend.”
Context
After the cancellation in 2020, the grounds of Catton Park welcome Bloodstock back for an edition expanded to five days. On Friday, August 13, Skindred takes the Ronnie James Dio stage before Devin Townsend. The gathering carries the recent weight of isolation and the shutdown of live shows.
Benji Webbe wears an outfit covered in flames and studs and demands participation from the crowd. Kill the Power gets fists pumping; Saying It Now scales things back with an acoustic version to address love and loss. At the close, Tristan Thomas joins in on Warning as clothes spin overhead in the Newport Helicopter.
The performance reaches a wider audience through professional footage released by the festival itself in October 2021. The selection keeps Doom Riff, Pressure, and Nobody but leaves out three songs from earlier in the show. This is not the full set: it is a selection that focuses on the meeting of collective celebration and remembrance of those absent.
- Tristan Thomas joins Warning and the Newport Helicopter finale.
- Saying It Now offers an acoustic pause devoted to love and loss.
