Context
On November 13, 2022, Loathe enter the Audiotree studio in Chicago with three songs and a question that runs through the session: how to create without subordinating every choice to other people's expectations. I Let It In and It Took Everything, released two years earlier, supplies the entire repertoire.
Kadeem France takes vocals, Erik Bickerstaffe handles guitar and vocals, Feisal El-Khazragi plays bass and sings, and Sean Radcliffe is on drums. Screaming opens the sequence on a Stratocaster; New Faces in the Dark and Gored bring in the baritone Gretsch. Between songs, the quartet discusses creativity, creative block and limitation.
In March 2023, the recording arrives as an episode of From Nothing and as a three-track digital EP. The video edition keeps the conversations; the audio focuses on the performances. These are two ways of framing the same session: one preserves the thinking around the songs, the other delivers only their performance.
- Bickerstaffe switches from the Stratocaster on Screaming to the baritone Gretsch on New Faces in the Dark and Gored.
