Context
Two days after finishing the Revolver sessions, the Beatles return to the stage in Munich. It is June 24, 1966, the start of the trip through West Germany, Japan and the Philippines. The studio work is moving forward, but the concert still depends on four musicians, amplifiers and about half an hour of songs.
At the Circus-Krone-Bau, Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr move from Rock and Roll Music to their own songs. Yesterday gets electric backing from the group instead of the solo acoustic format. Before I'm Down, the three guitarists argue over the lyrics; McCartney starts singing and still mixes up the verses.
ZDF records the evening show and airs an edit on July 5, titled Die Beatles. The trip moves on to Essen, Hamburg and Asia, before the farewell to touring in the United States. The Munich cut preserves six songs from this interval between studio discipline and the flaws exposed on stage.
- Yesterday appears with electric backing from all four Beatles.
