“To see Raça Negra and SPC together in 2014, during Alexandre Pires's reunion with his group.”
Context
In 2014, two bands that ruled the radio in the 1990s begin sharing the same stage. Alexandre Pires had already revived his partnership with Só Pra Contrariar, after eleven years away. Alongside Luiz Carlos's Raça Negra, the reunion takes on another scale: a joint tour across Brazil.
In São Paulo, the two groups cross their catalogs without splitting the performance into two shows. Cheia de Manias opens the run of songs, followed by Você Vai Voltar Pra Mim and Te Quero Comigo. The set alternates the two bands' hits and saves Depois do Prazer, É Tarde Demais and Essa Tal Liberdade for the final stretch.
The partnership stays on the road until May 2015 and yields a CD and DVD through Sony Music and Som Livre. The recording captures a defined stage of the meeting, still with Alexandre fronting SPC. In 2016, the project returns as Gigantes do Samba II, with Belo and a different structure from that of the two bands together.
