Context
On Friday afternoon, Moonsorrow brings its long compositions to the main stage at Bloodstock, at Catton Park. It is August 10, 2012. The band arrives after signing with Century Media, but its most recent release is still Varjoina kuljemme kuolleiden maassa, released the previous year.
The festival slot allows for five songs. Ukkosenjumalan poika opens the way for Huuto; Sankarihauta, Kivenkantaja and Sankaritarina follow. Mitja Harvilahti and Janne Perttilä's guitars meet Markus Eurén's keyboards, while Ville Sorvali handles bass and vocals. Extended instrumental passages and vocal harmonies sustain the connection with the audience.
After this summer, the next studio chapter still takes time: Jumalten aika does not arrive until 2016, through Century Media. The Catton Park performance remains in circulation as a full audiovisual recording from the festival. It captures a transition between labels without previewing the next record: onstage, the emphasis falls on four previously released albums.
- Huuto takes center stage in a five-song set, closed by Sankaritarina.
