Katy Perry started out singing gospel in Santa Barbara, California, and became a pop star in 2008 with I Kissed a Girl. Teenage Dream, from 2010, tied Michael Jackson's record of five number ones on the American chart from a single album. Saturated colors, cartoon costumes and choruses of industrial precision made her one of the best-selling artists of the decade.
