Context
The Thursday sun still warms Catton Park when Frozen Soul brings its icy imagery to Bloodstock. It is August 10, 2023, the festival's opening day. Glacial Domination had arrived in May, and the Texas quintet comes armed with two albums for its appearance on the Sophie Lancaster Stage.
The tent fills up. Chad Green handles vocals, Michael Munday and Chris Bonner share guitar duties, while Samantha Mobley and Matt Dennard round out the lineup. Encased in Ice clears the way for Invisible Tormentor and Arsenal of War. The heaviness struggles against the stage's tinny sound, but the band keeps up the attack.
Arctic Stranglehold and Crypt of Ice close the set, bringing the first album back to center stage. In September, the full performance begins circulating on video, preserving this meeting of the group's first two phases. The recording captures a band with a still-small catalog facing an already packed tent.
