Context
On August 9, 2024, Opeth returns to headline Bloodstock for the third time. The Last Will and Testament had already been announced, but the night at Catton Park looks back: fans choose the setlist, focused on the period when death metal and progressive rock share space.
The Grand Conjuration and Demon of the Fall lead the way on the Ronnie James Dio stage. Åkerfeldt alternates growls with the clean vocals of In My Time of Need and Sorceress, while making wry remarks about the preference for the older albums. There are calls for §1, the new single, but the band sticks to the eight songs chosen for the night.
Deliverance closes the encore, and the full recording gets its digital premiere in November, the same month The Last Will and Testament hits stores. The performance preserves this interval between two phases: the new album has already been announced, but the catalog the audience chooses to bring back is what takes the stage.
- The request for §1 meets Åkerfeldt's dry humor, not a live debut.
