Album featured at the showDon't Rock the Jukebox1991The second album supplies a central part of the special, including the title track, Walkin' the Floor Over Me and Working Class Hero.“To see Alan Jackson headline his first televised concert special, on the network where he once worked in the mailroom.”
Context
Before becoming the center of a TNN special, Alan Jackson worked in the network's mailroom. In Austin, the relationship changes scale: the former employee arrives as the singer of two platinum albums, Here in the Real World and Don't Rock the Jukebox.
On stage, Jackson ties the songs to concrete experiences. Introducing Working Class Hero, he talks about his father and the plaque he received after years of work. Better Class of Losers, written with Randy Travis, trades the family tribute for a jab at the consumer habits of a wealthier social class.
The recording finds its way to television as Jackson's first concert special, with TNN announcing the broadcast for August 3, 1992. The move to television widens the reach of these stories without shifting their center: personal relationships, work and the defense of country as a language of its own.
