Evanescence came out of Little Rock as a pop haunting of heavy guitars: church piano, alternative metal and teenage melodrama turned into a worldwide language. With Fallen, Amy Lee made grief an arena chorus; then The Open Door opened more adult wounds, the self-titled phase hardened the collective machine, Synthesis dressed the ghost in an orchestra and The Bitter Truth brought the electric blood back to the surface.
