Context
It is still morning in Landgraaf when Thirty Seconds to Mars takes the 3FM stage on May 28, 2007. A Beautiful Lie had already gone platinum in the United States and reached Europe that February. Pinkpop finds the band in international expansion, shortly after the departure of bassist Matt Wachter.
Jared Leto takes vocals and guitar, with Tomo Miličević on the other guitar, Shannon Leto on drums and Tim Kelleher on bass. The title track opens the sequence, which runs through Battle of One, From Yesterday and Savior. The Fantasy comes before The Kill and Attack; Some Other Son works as a farewell. The second album accounts for almost the entire performance.
The schedule continues through European festivals, including Rock am Ring and Download. In November, the band wins best rock act at the MTV Europe Music Awards. The Pinkpop footage remains preserved in the Dutch audiovisual archive, produced by NTR: a portrait of the phase in which A Beautiful Lie gains scale outside the United States.
