Context
Three years after its Pinkpop debut, System of a Down returns to Landgraaf on another scale. Toxicity had taken the quartet to number one on the American charts. On May 20, 2002, the band takes the Megaland stage with this second record at the center of the tour.
Prison Song opens the show, but the guitar gear soon interferes with the plan. During DDevil, Daron Malakian jumps into the crowd; while the tech works, he also lies down on the stage. Serj Tankian, Shavo Odadjian and John Dolmayan keep playing. Further on, La Isla Bonita interrupts the run of original songs before Bounce.
Later that year, the third album expands the discography with material from the Toxicity sessions. The Pinkpop footage remains a festival broadcast, preserved in the event's archive and recovered in 2025. The excerpt ends with Aerials, before the remaining eight songs of the performance: a window into the band's rise, with its mishaps on display.
- Daron Malakian jumps into the crowd and lies down on the stage during the guitar gear failures.
- La Isla Bonita brings Madonna into the middle of the performance.
