Context
In August 2025, Crown Lands expands from a duo to five musicians at Chalet Recording Studio, in Pickering. Ritual I and Ritual II had introduced an instrumental, meditative direction. Now Cody Bowles and Kevin Comeau return to the space where the project was born to turn that material into a group session.
Bowles gathers flutes, oud and percussion; Comeau handles guitar, Rhodes and synthesizers. Graham Shaw, Brian Griffin and Nash Annan add drums, dulcimer and other instruments. Without a full rehearsal the day before, the five work out changes and rhythms on the day of the shoot itself, before recording two or three takes of each song.
Luke Paron's direction turns the August 20 session into Ritual Live, which premieres on October 10. Comeau handles the recording and mixing. The recording captures a concrete change of scale: for the first time, Crown Lands appears in a filmed performance with musicians beyond its two members.
- Shadows Under Moonlight keeps the first take of the session.
