Context
In August 2022, Mercyful Fate's return to the stage reaches the grounds of Catton Park. The band headlines Saturday at Bloodstock during a season that resumes its live activity after a long break. King Diamond insists on continuity, not a nostalgic reunion.
Smoke accompanies the singer's entrance wearing a horned headpiece. An inverted cross lights the set, while Hank Shermann and Mike Wead share guitar duties, with Joey Vera on bass and Bjarne T. Holm on drums. Between The Oath and Satan's Fall, The Jackal of Salzburg makes room for new material.
After Bloodstock, the schedule moves on to Las Vegas and, in the fall, a North American tour. The festival recording preserves eleven songs from a period of renewed activity without abandoning the core of the early releases. Melissa and Don't Break the Oath remain at the center, but the unreleased composition keeps the night from dwelling entirely in the past.
- The Jackal of Salzburg places a still-unreleased composition alongside the band's early releases.
