Context
On August 3, 2023, Helloween finds a Wacken marked by mud and by access restrictions caused by the rain. The reunion of Kai Hansen and Michael Kiske with the band had already produced a studio album. Now seven members bring that partnership to the Thursday headlining slot.
Skyfall opens the show with Deris and Kiske sharing vocals. Hansen takes the mic for the medley of Metal Invaders, Victim of Fate, Gorgar and Ride the Sky, followed by Heavy Metal (Is the Law). Forever and One brings the two lead singers together; Sascha Gerstner and Dani Löble also get spots of their own.
At the end, I Want Out gets a drone display that forms the band's logo over Wacken. The MagentaMusik broadcast preserves the show for on-demand viewing. The record keeps a reunion that already goes beyond celebrating the past: Mass Pollution, Best Time and Skyfall put new material among the songs that hold up this story.
- I Want Out closes the night with the band's logo drawn by drones.
