Context
In August 2022, GWAR returns to European festivals after almost three years away from the continent. The Bloodstock appearance on August 12 is part of the Black Death Rager World Tour. The New Dark Ages had arrived two months earlier, accompanied by a comic book that expands the band's fictional world.
On the Ronnie James Dio Stage, Blöthar leads a late-afternoon performance where metal shares space with grotesque theatrics. Fake blood reaches the front rows, and a caricature of the queen joins the action. Mother Fucking Liar brings the new album alongside Sick of You and Bring Back the Bomb.
The closing AC/DC cover, If You Want Blood (You've Got It), gives a literal name to the joke running through the show. After Bloodstock, the British run continues to London, while a North American leg fills the second half of the year. The festival recording preserves this meeting of the new album campaign and monster theater.
