Context
In November 2025, Kokoroko arrive at the Forum in Leverkusen with their second album already out. Tuff Times Never Last widens the group's horizon toward Brit-funk, soul and West African disco. The German festival takes in this change four months after the release.
On stage, Sheila Maurice-Grey shares the leadership of the septet with percussionist Onome Edgeworth. Trumpet and trombone meet guitar, bass, keyboards and drums. Idea 5 and Never Lost put the recent record at the center of the set. Between songs, Sheila introduces the work and its idea of collective optimism.
The night gets an hour-long television version, directed by Tobias Kremer for ARTE Concert and produced by Leverkusener Jazztage. The recording captures a stage of expansion: the group keeps its roots in Afrobeat and highlife, but already embraces the song and the dance floor as paths of its own.
