Context
Fifty years after Nina Simone performed in Montreux, RAYE opens the night of July 3 with Who Knows Where the Time Goes?. It is her third consecutive appearance at the festival. The sixtieth-anniversary edition gives her carte blanche to build an exclusive show, in partnership with Audemars Piguet.
Under suspended fabric sails, the revolving stage of the Auditorium Stravinski gathers the singer and 23 musicians. Skin & Bones. works in Aretha Franklin's Rock Steady; Nightingale Lane. flows into Purple Rain. Mark Ronson comes on with his guitar, Alicia Keys shares two songs, and sisters Amma and Absolutely join in on Joy.
The night brings the newly released This Music May Contain Hope close to artists who have run through Montreux's history. The meeting gets an audiovisual record from ARTE and RTS, circulating on television and streaming. The tribute is not limited to the covers: her own songs also fill the space opened by these references.
- Who Knows Where the Time Goes? marks fifty years since Nina Simone's 1976 performance.
- Mark Ronson joins in on Uptown Funk and Suzanne; Amma and Absolutely join their sister on Joy.
