Context
A party at José Maurício Machline's house had Mariene de Castro and Almério singing late into the night. Their rapport gives rise to a show directed by their host. On September 17, 2018, the pairing comes to Casa do Choro to be recorded, with Almério fresh from winning the breakthrough singer award at the Prêmio da Música Brasileira.
Onstage, the voices lead a trio: Juliano Holanda and Pedrinho Franco on strings, Geo Barbosa on accordion. Mariene sings barefoot; Almério brings aboio to his delivery. Between solos and duets, Deus Me Proteja precedes Perto Demais de Deus, two ways through Chico César's repertoire.
The performance is released on CD by Biscoito Fino in 2019 and also becomes a DVD. The physical edition features 18 tracks, while the digital edition preserves 25. From the opening with Avesso and Vai Dar Namoro to the closing Canto de Ossanha, the partnership moves beyond a gathering at home and takes lasting form.
- Deus Me Proteja and Perto Demais de Deus bring together two interpretations of Chico César's repertoire.
