Mariene de Castro

Mariene de Castro was born in Salvador and began her professional career in 1995, singing backing vocals for Márcia Freire and Carlinhos Brown and performing with Timbalada. Abre caminho, her first album, came out in 2004 and brought together sambas, ritual songs and repertoire connected to Bahian music; the album won the Prêmio TIM de Música in the regional category.

Santo de casa, Tabaroinha and Colheita followed. In 2013 she released Ser de Luz, a recording of a tribute to Clara Nunes.
