Context
A street corner in downtown Rio gives its name to a collaboration that spans the years. In 1999, Moacyr Luz invited Zé Renato, Jards Macalé and Guinga for a run at Teatro João Caetano. The gathering, conceived as five performances, went on the road; in December 2015, it arrives at Teatro Sesc Ginástico to be recorded.
The four share vocals and acoustic guitars, with percussion handled by Zé Renato, Macalé and Moacyr. Um a Zero opens the way for a program that brings samba together with their own compositions. Catavento e Girassol, Vapor Barato and Toada sit alongside Nega Dina and Acertei no Milhar, without separating songwriters from interpreters.
The recording is released on CD and DVD by Biscoito Fino in 2016, directed by Darcy Burguer. The release also takes the quartet back on the road. More than bringing together four careers, the recording captures a collective project that preserves the program built since the first performances and puts friendship into practice onstage.
