Context
On the opening Thursday of Bloodstock 2024, the Sophie Lancaster tent is full for a band that had introduced itself to the world in January 2022. With Guns for Hire released the previous year, Tailgunner arrives at Catton Park still in its debut-album phase, banking on traditional heavy metal.
Craig Cairns leads the chants and raised fists while Zach Salvini and Rhea Thompson roam the stage and trade solos. Thomas Hewson and Jani Pasanen anchor Revolution Scream and Crashdive. The guitar duel makes room for a display of technique, but also takes up minutes that could accommodate another song.
Painkiller closes the set with a direct nod to Judas Priest, an influence the band makes no effort to hide. In December 2024, the full performance becomes available through the festival’s audiovisual archive. The recording preserves this early stage: five songs from the debut album share space with covers and an instrumental duel.
- Painkiller closes the show after the guitar duel between Zach Salvini and Rhea Thompson.
