Context
Saturday, August 10 ends under the canvas of the Sophie Lancaster Stage. After Parkway Drive's spectacle on the main stage, Bloodstock hands the closing slot to Taake's black metal. Kong Vinter is still the latest studio release, but the night also reaches back twenty years to the debut.
Hoest takes the stage amid strobes and blue beams, raises the microphone stand and strikes the air. Jernhaand opens a sequence of thirteen songs. Five parts of Nattestid ser porten vid run through the performance, while Nordbundet and Du ville ville Vestland connect that past with material from Noregs vaapen.
The appearance at Catton Park is captured in a full-length recording made available in April 2020. The footage preserves the contrast of that closing set: instead of the scale of the main stage, a tent taken over by Taake. Between the 1999 debut and the three tracks from Kong Vinter, the performance keeps two decades in direct contact.
