Context
In front of the castaways of The Raft of the Medusa, Gaël Faye finds a setting for his words about belonging, displacement and hope. It is May 20, 2025, the close of his carte blanche at the Louvre. The program had begun in March, bringing together music, literature and the museum's collections.
In the Salle Mollien, six musicians surround the rapper with piano, guitar and strings. Guillaume Poncelet writes the arrangements; Samuel Kamanzi shares vocals with Faye. Paris métèque and Petit pays get a new frame. The early hush gives way to a looser atmosphere, crossed by Jasser Haj Youssef's viola d'amore solos.
Seuls et vaincus adds a concrete presence to the evening: Christiane Taubira, who wrote the poem, is in the audience. The performance airs on ARTE in September, filmed under the direction of Guillaume Klein. Outside the concert halls, the film preserves the dialogue between the sung word and the painting of a shipwreck.
- Seuls et vaincus meets its author, Christiane Taubira, in the audience.
