“To see Atreyu in the Musicians Institute auditorium, months before the release of Lead Sails Paper Anchor.”
Context
On January 12, 2007, Atreyu arrives at the Musicians Institute auditorium in Hollywood with three studio albums behind it. A Death-Grip on Yesterday, released the previous year on Victory, had reached number nine on the Billboard 200. The night finds the band between that commercial breakthrough and the next chapter.
On stage, Alex Varkatzas handles the vocals, while Brandon Saller splits drums and singing. Dan Jacobs and Travis Miguel take the guitars; Marc McKnight completes the quintet on bass. This is the lineup that carries the A Death-Grip on Yesterday era, gathered here inside a school devoted to musical practice.
In the following months, the band moves on to Lead Sails Paper Anchor, released in August 2007 on Hollywood Records. The performance stays in the Musicians Institute archive and resurfaces in 2015 in the Throwback Thursday series. The recording keeps a snapshot from before the fourth album's change of direction, still tied to the Victory cycle.
