Context
In September 2025, Kevin Parker arrives at NPR headquarters with an unusual plan for Tame Impala: play everything acoustically. Five years earlier, the Tiny Desk appearance happened remotely. Now the group takes over the Washington office and gives up some of the control that defines its productions.
Borderline opens the session, before Loser and Dracula present two sides of the still unreleased Deadbeat. Parker sings and plays acoustic guitar, surrounded by five other musicians. Ukulele, bass and percussion carry the change of scale. On Dracula, the vocal harmonies and falsetto come forward; New Person, Same Old Mistakes closes the meeting.
The session reaches the public on October 17, together with Deadbeat, the project's first album in more than five years. Ten days later, the American promotional tour begins. Between the 2020 home experience and the return to arenas, the recording preserves a concrete change: the songs make it through the office without relying on electronic machinery.
- Loser and Dracula debut live before the release of Deadbeat.
