Why watch

“To see Laurie Anderson in a deconsecrated Paris chapel, backed by drones created with Lou Reed's guitars.”

Context

On May 13, 2025, a deconsecrated Paris chapel hosts Laurie Anderson for a private concert. Months earlier, she had released Amelia, a narrative about Amelia Earhart's last flight. At Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc, the scale is different: a gathering that brings together word, gesture and sonic experimentation.

Anderson tells stories in French, beatboxes, recites poetry and aims criticism at Trump's America. Even a tai chi lesson finds a place in the performance. Stewart Hurwood works with Lou Reed's guitars, while Chris Vatalaro, Doug Wieselman and Martha Mooke complete the ensemble with percussion, guitar, winds and viola.

The night circulates in September 2025 through ARTE Concert, produced by Sombrero & Co and directed by Gautier & Leduc. The recording preserves this meeting of narrative, body and drones in about seventy minutes. The decommissioned religious space comes to house another form of collective attention.

Stories in French, beatbox and tai chi share space in the performance.
