Red Hot Chili Peppers was born in Los Angeles in 1983, mixing funk, punk and rap with the energy of a band that plays shirtless and with no brakes. Flea’s bass, John Frusciante’s guitar and Anthony Kiedis’s vocals moved from the sweaty party of Blood Sugar Sex Magik to the sunlit melancholy of Californication. Few bands have gone through so many guitarist changes while keeping such a recognizable sound.
To hear Los Angeles funk become stadium rock without losing its swing.
