Carl Perkins was born in Tiptonville, Tennessee, and played the bars of Jackson before recording for Sun Records in Memphis. “Blue Suede Shoes”, released in 1956, reached the country, pop and rhythm and blues charts, but a car accident that year cut short his rise. He kept recording and toured with Johnny Cash. He died in 1998, in Jackson.
