Yann Tiersen was born in Brest, France, and grew up in Rennes, where he studied piano and violin. He released La Valse des monstres in 1995 and rose to prominence with Le Phare, from 1998.
In 2001, he wrote music for the film Amélie, whose soundtrack widened his international audience. He then alternated piano albums, such as EUSA, with electronic work and projects tied to the landscapes and life of the islands.
