West Australian Symphony Orchestra

The West Australian Symphony Orchestra traces its origins to Perth in 1928, when 32 professional musicians performed under the baton of Harold Newton. That first ensemble is considered the beginning of the orchestra that went on to work under its current name.

Since then, it has taken on repertoires and partnerships beyond classical music, with performances that include opera, ballet, film, musicals, jazz and rock. The orchestra remains based in Perth and performs throughout Western Australia.
