Underworld emerged in Cardiff, Wales, in the late 1970s, from the partnership of Karl Hyde and Rick Smith, who had previously been in Freur. After an early phase tied to synth-pop, the group reshaped itself with DJ Darren Emerson and released Dubnobasswithmyheadman (1994) and Second Toughest in the Infants (1996).
The track “Born Slippy .NUXX” gained wide exposure through the film Trainspotting. Emerson left in 2000, and Hyde and Smith carried on as a duo.
