Tom Zé

Tom Zé was born in Irará, Bahia, and studied music in Salvador before moving to São Paulo in 1968. He contributed to the album Tropicália ou Panis et Circencis and released Grande Liquidação that same year.

In the 1970s, he recorded Todos os Olhos and Estudando o Samba, which gained international recognition after David Byrne rediscovered him in the 1980s. His partnership with Byrne boosted his career outside Brazil and opened a new phase of releases and tours.
