Theodore Bikel

Theodore Bikel was born in Vienna in 1924 and left Austria with his family after the Nazi occupation, heading to Palestine. He established himself as an actor and singer, dividing his career between stage, film and folk music. He recorded repertoire in Yiddish, Hebrew and other languages, including songs from different traditions, and released records on labels such as Elektra.

In the theater, he created the role of Captain von Trapp in the original Broadway production of The Sound of Music; he also became known for playing Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof.
