The Statler Brothers emerged in 1955, in Staunton, Virginia, from a gospel quartet that performed as the Four Star Quartet. Johnny Cash took them on his tour in 1964, and “Flowers on the Wall” became the group’s first big hit. The lineup went through member changes, released country and gospel records and hosted a television show in the 1990s. The quartet ended its career in 2002.
