Brothers Paddy, Tom and Liam Clancy were born in Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary, and began singing together in New York, where they also worked in theater. With Tommy Makem, they made their name on the Greenwich Village folk circuit and popularized traditional Irish songs in the United States.
The 1956 album The Rising of the Moon helped introduce the group to a larger audience. The lineup changed over the decades, and the brothers reunited at different times.
