Sweet Honey in the Rock is a vocal ensemble founded by Bernice Johnson Reagon in Washington, D.C., in 1973, connected to the Black Repertory Company. Made up of Black women, the group works with a cappella singing, percussion and sign language, combining traditional repertoire with songs about civil rights, labor and social justice.
Over the decades its members have changed, but the ensemble has stayed active in records, concerts and educational projects.
