Social Distortion gave California punk the soul of a broken jukebox. Mike Ness mixed hardcore, rockabilly, country and Catholic guilt like someone writing his rap sheet as a song. Mommy's Little Monster brought the street; Prison Bound opened the wound; the self-titled album became a popular classic. The band grew old without becoming a museum piece, keeping up the morale of losers who still raise their fists.
