Robbie O'Connell was born in Waterford, Ireland, and grew up in Carrick-on-Suir, where his parents ran a small hotel. A nephew of the Clancy brothers, he built a career as a singer and songwriter rooted in Irish traditional music.
He performed solo and was part of groups such as The Green Fields of America, which brings together Irish and American musicians. His repertoire combines original songs with traditional ones, and he has also taught songwriting at folk music workshops and gatherings in the United States.
