Rita Lee

Born in São Paulo, Rita Lee rose to prominence in Os Mutantes, the group with which she recorded albums tied to Tropicália and Brazilian psychedelia. After leaving the band, she formed Tutti Frutti and released Fruto Proibido, from 1975, which includes “Ovelha Negra”.

From the late 1970s on, she wrote and recorded with Roberto de Carvalho; among the work from that phase are Rita Lee, from 1980, and Saúde. Her career spanned more than five decades, until her death in 2023.
