Born in Sheffield, Richard Hawley began his career with the band Longpigs in the 1990s and also played live with Pulp. In 2001 he released his first solo work. Cole’s Corner, from 2005, featured songs tied to his hometown and was nominated for the Mercury Prize.
Later, Lady’s Bridge deepened that connection, while Standing at the Sky’s Edge, from 2012, marked a turn toward heavier guitars. Hawley keeps releasing solo albums, among them In This City They Call You Love, from 2024.
