Peter, Paul and Mary

Peter, Paul and Mary was formed in New York in 1961, with Peter Yarrow, Noel “Paul” Stookey and Mary Travers. The debut record, released in 1962, reached number one on the American charts; In the Wind brought versions of Bob Dylan songs, among them “Blowin’ in the Wind”.

The trio also recorded “Puff the Magic Dragon” and performed songs tied to the civil rights and antiwar movements. It split in 1970 so the members could pursue solo careers and reunited in 1978, staying together until Travers’s death in 2009.
