The Orquestra Simfònica del Gran Teatre del Liceu made its debut in 1847, at the opening of Barcelona’s opera house, and has taken part in its seasons ever since. Over almost two centuries, it has accompanied Spanish premieres of works from the operatic repertoire and performances of Catalan composers.
Its history includes conductors such as Richard Strauss, Igor Stravinsky and Manuel de Falla. It is considered the oldest orchestra in Spain.
