N.E.R.D.

N.E.R.D. emerged in Virginia Beach as a side project of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, the producers known as The Neptunes, alongside Shay Haley. The trio released In Search Of… in 2001 and, on Fly or Die, from 2004, took its mix of hip-hop and rock to a lineup that played instruments live.

Seeing Sounds and Nothing followed. After a break, the group returned in 2017 with No One Ever Really Dies.
