Born in Belo Horizonte, Max Cavalera co-founded Sepultura with his brother Igor in 1984. As singer and guitarist, he played on albums such as Beneath the Remains, Arise and Roots, which brought Brazilian rhythms into the band’s sound.
After leaving the group in 1996, he formed Soulfly, whose debut album came out in 1998. He was also part of projects such as Nailbomb and Cavalera Conspiracy, the latter reuniting him with Igor in 2007.
