Leila Pinheiro

Leila Pinheiro was born in Belém and began her singing career in 1980 after leaving medical school. Her first album, Leila Pinheiro, was released independently in 1981. Her appearance at Festival dos Festivais in 1985 raised her profile, and Bênção, Bossa Nova, released in 1989 with musical direction by Roberto Menescal, marked her turn toward the bossa nova repertoire. She continued recording MPB and bossa nova, including collaborations with Menescal.
