José Feliciano

José Feliciano was born in Lares, Puerto Rico, and moved with his family to New York at five. He learned guitar as a child and began his career recording in English; in 1966, a performance in Argentina opened the way to Spanish-language albums, among them versions of boleros.

The 1968 album Feliciano! featured his interpretation of “Light My Fire” and earned him two Grammys. He kept recording in different languages and, in 2020, released Behind This Guitar.
