Emperor

Emperor emerged in Notodden, Norway, in 1991, formed by Ihsahn and Samoth. Its debut album, In the Nightside Eclipse, came out in 1994 and helped define the combination of black metal and keyboards that became the group's hallmark.

Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, released in 1997, expanded that approach; the band later released IX Equilibrium and Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire and Demise. The band disbanded in 2001 and returned to the stage in 2006.
