Elba Ramalho

Elba Ramalho was born in Conceição, Paraíba, and began her artistic path in groups and festivals before moving to Rio de Janeiro in 1974. Her role in the play Ópera do Malandro helped launch her as a singer.

Her first album, Ave de Prata, came out in 1979; in the following years, she built a career tied to MPB and the rhythms of Brazil’s Northeast. In 1996, she took part in the project O Grande Encontro, with Alceu Valença, Geraldo Azevedo and Zé Ramalho.
